Maternity Leave is covered under G.22 of our Collective Agreement and under the Canada Labour Code. To apply for maternity leave, please provide the employer with the estimated commencement of your leave as soon as possible in order to facilitate posting for your replacement. To apply for Supplemental Benefit Plan (Top-Up), please provide the employer with:
1) The confirmed date of commencement of your Maternity Leave
2) Proof of Application for Employment Insurance Benefits.
3) Proof of actual receipt of EI benefits (Copy of EI cheque stub).
Supplemental earnings will be paid bi-weekly for those who qualify. The deadline for submitting EI cheque stubs to the Board is the Monday before the next scheduled pay date. The benefit paid under the plan is set at 75% of your "normal weekly earnings". Payments will be made by cheque and will be subject to Income Tax, CPP, and Pension.
Below, we have provided the following to give further information regarding Maternity, Paternity, Parental and Parenthood leaves:
Definitions:
Available only to the biological mother in a period surrounding the birth of the child.
To provide time to mother and child to recover physically from the birth.
Two days paid leave (by the employer) for the father on the birth of his child.
Available to biological and adoptive parents to be claimed by one parent or shared between the two parents.
Two options:
Standard Parental: 35 weeks
Extended Parental: 61 weeks
Period of time following parental leave.
NOTE: Parental and Parenthood leave shall be taken consecutively and shall not exceed a total of 20 working months.
