Maternity Leave is covered under G.22 of our Collective Agreement and under the Canada Labour Code. To apply for maternity leave, please provide the employer with the estimated commencement of your leave as soon as possible in order to facilitate posting for your replacement. To apply for Supplemental Benefit Plan (Top-Up), please provide the employer with:
1) The confirmed date of commencement of your Maternity Leave
2) Proof of Application for Employment Insurance Benefits.
3) Proof of actual receipt of EI benefits (Copy of EI cheque stub).
Supplemental earnings will be paid bi-weekly for those who qualify. The deadline for submitting EI cheque stubs to the Board is the Monday before the next scheduled pay date. The benefit paid under the plan is set at 100% of your "normal weekly earnings" for 16 weeks. Payments will be made by cheque and will be subject to Income Tax, CPP, and Pension.
Please note, that the supplemental benefit plan is only paid during the school year. There are no supplemental benefits paid over the summer, and the summer period does not count as a 'pause' in the 16 weeks of top up. Please contact SD48 HR directly for more information on this.
